Lostprophets
are a Welsh rock band from Pontypridd, formed in 1997. Founded by vocalist Ian
Watkins, bassist (later guitarist) Mike Lewis, drummer Mike Chiplin and
guitarist Lee Gaze, they were originally a side-project to hardcore punk band
Public Disturbance. To date, Lostprophets have released five studio albums,
most recent released Weapons on 2 April 2012. They are also part of the Cardiff
music scene.[citation needed]
The
band have achieved two top ten hits on the UK Singles Chart ("Last Train
Home" and "Rooftops"), one number one single on the Alternative
Songs chart ("Last Train Home"), several Kerrang! Awards and
nominations and have sold around 3.5 million albums worldwide.

Alice
in Chains is an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1987 by
guitarist and songwriter Jerry Cantrell and original lead vocalist Layne
Staley. The initial lineup was rounded out by drummer Sean Kinney, and bassist
Mike Starr (who was replaced in 1993 by Mike Inez).
Although
widely associated with grunge music, the band's sound incorporates heavy metal
and acoustic elements. Since its formation, Alice in Chains has released four
studio albums, three EPs, two live albums, four compilations, and two DVDs. The
band is known for its distinct vocal style which often included the harmonized
vocals of Staley and Cantrell.
Alice
in Chains rose to international fame as part of the grunge movement of the
early 1990s, along with other Seattle bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and
Soundgarden. The band was one of the most successful music acts of the 1990s,
selling over 35 million albums worldwide, and over 14 million in the US alone.
In 1992 the band released their album Dirt which was critically acclaimed and
has been certified quadruple platinum. The band also achieved two No.1
Billboard 200 albums (Jar of Flies and Alice in Chains), 14 top ten songs on
the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, and eight Grammy Award nominations.
Although
never officially disbanding, Alice in Chains was plagued by extended inactivity
from 1996 onwards due to Staley's substance abuse, which resulted in his death
in 2002. The band reunited in 2005 with new lead vocalist William DuVall, and
released their fourth studio album, Black Gives Way to Blue, in 2009. The album
was a success, being certified gold by the RIAA in 2010. Alice in Chains is
currently working on a new studio album, which is due for release sometime in
late 2012 or early 2013.

Soundgarden
is an American grunge band formed in Seattle, Washington in 1984 by singer
Chris Cornell, lead guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist Hiro Yamamoto. Matt
Cameron became the band's full time drummer in 1986, while bassist Ben Shepherd
became a permanent replacement for Yamamoto in 1990.
Soundgarden
was one of the seminal bands in the creation of grunge, a style of alternative
rock that developed in Seattle, and was one of a number of grunge bands signed
to the record label Sub Pop. Soundgarden was the first grunge band to sign to a
major label (A&M Records, in 1988), though the band did not achieve
commercial success until they popularized "grunge" in the early 1990s
with Seattle contemporaries Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam.
Soundgarden
achieved its biggest success with the 1994 album Superunknown, which debuted at
number one on the Billboard charts and yielded the Grammy Award-winning singles
"Black Hole Sun" and "Spoonman". In 1997, the band broke up
due to internal strife over its creative direction. After several years working
on projects and other bands, Soundgarden reunited in 2010 and is currently
working on a new album, which is slated for release in October 2012.
As
of 2010, Soundgarden had sold over 10 million records in the United States, and
an estimated 21 million worldwide.

Korn
(often stylized as KoЯn) is an American nu metal band from Bakersfield,
California, formed in 1993. The current band line up includes four members:
Jonathan Davis, James "Munky" Shaffer, Reginald "Fieldy"
Arvizu, and Ray Luzier. Korn was originally formed by three of the members of
the now-defunct band L.A.P.D., with the addition of two other people.
The
band released their first demo album, Neidermeyer's Mind, in 1993. Their debut
album, Korn was released in October 1994, where they featured the same
musicians that had performed on Neidermeyer's Mind. The band began recording
Life Is Peachy in April 1996, and released it in October 1996. Follow the
Leader is recognized as Korn's mainstream breakthrough, peaking at number one
on the Billboard 200 in August 1998, along with the following album, Issues, in
November 1999. The band released Untouchables in June 2002, and later released
Take a Look in the Mirror in November 2003. Their first compilation album,
Greatest Hits Vol. 1, was released in October 2004, concluding Korn's contract
with Epic and Immortal Records. They eventually signed to Virgin Records,
releasing See You on the Other Side in December 2005, and an untitled album in
July 2007. Korn's latest albums, Korn III: Remember Who You Are and The Path of
Totality, were released via Roadrunner Records in July 2010 and December 2011,
respectively.
Korn
has sold 19 million albums in the US according to Nielsen SoundScan, and 35
million worldwide. Eleven of the band's official releases have peaked in the
top ten of the Billboard 200, eight of which have peaked in the top five. Eight
official releases are certified Platinum or Multi-Platinum by the RIAA, and one
is certified Gold. Korn have released six video albums and 39 music videos.
They currently have 41 singles, 28 of which have charted. Korn have earned two
Grammy Awards out of seven nominations, for "Freak on a Leash" and
"Here to Stay".

Linkin
Park is an American rock band from Agoura Hills, California. Formed in 1996,
the band rose to international fame with their debut album, Hybrid Theory,
which was certified Diamond by the RIAA in 2005 and multi-platinum in several
other countries. Its following studio album, Meteora, continued the band's
success, topping the Billboard 200 album chart in 2003, and was followed by
extensive touring and charity work around the world. In 2003, MTV2 named Linkin
Park the sixth greatest band of the music video era and the third best of the
new millennium behind Oasis and Coldplay. Billboard ranked Linkin Park #19 on
the Best Artists of the Decade chart.
Having
adapted the nu metal and rap metal genres to a radio-friendly yet densely
layered style in Hybrid Theory and Meteora, the band explored other genres in
their next studio album, Minutes to Midnight, which was released in 2007. The
album topped the Billboard charts and had the third best debut week of any
album that year. The band has collaborated with several other artists, most
notably with rapper Jay-Z in their mashup EP Collision Course, and many others
included on Reanimation. The band's most recent work, the concept album A
Thousand Suns, was released on September 8, 2010. Linkin Park has sold over 50
million albums worldwide and has won two Grammy Awards.
